1. Information We Collect

We collect the information you provide when creating an account (email address, display name, family relation, optional avatar photo) and the content you create within the app: audio/video recordings, book entries, cover photos, and reader photos.

We also collect a small amount of technical data automatically: a record of key actions in the app (for example, that a recording was saved or a subscription was purchased), and crash and error reports when something goes wrong. See section 7 for exactly what this does and does not include.

2. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Readby is designed for family use. We do not collect personal information directly from children under 13. Parents and adult family members manage all accounts, recordings, and playback on behalf of their children. Purchases are protected by a parental gate.

3. How We Use Information

Your data is used solely to provide the Readby service — storing recordings, connecting invited family members, and enabling playback on your devices. We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for behavioral advertising.

4. Data Storage & Security

Recordings and account data are stored on secured cloud infrastructure (hosted in the European Union), and all data is encrypted in transit. Access to recordings is limited to the family members you explicitly invite.

5. Deleting Your Data

You can delete individual recordings at any time. To delete your entire account, open Settings → Delete Account in the app. Deletion is permanent and cascades to all your content: recordings, books, photos, family connections and preferences are removed. Full instructions, including how to request deletion by email if you no longer have the app installed, are on our account deletion page.

6. Sign-in Providers

If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive only your name and email address from the provider. We never receive your password.

7. Analytics & Crash Reporting

Readby uses PostHog (hosted in the European Union) to understand how the app is used and to find out when it breaks. Readby contains no advertising SDKs, and we do not use your data for behavioural advertising or sell it to anyone.

On the public readby.io website, we also use Google Analytics 4 to measure page views and important website actions, such as choosing an app-store download link. Google Analytics is on by default. Advertising storage, ad personalization and Google Signals remain disabled, and we do not use advertising cookies at all. You can turn analytics off at any time using the Cookie settings button in the bottom-left corner of every page; turning it off also clears the analytics cookies already stored on your device.

Because this app is used by families with young children, we have deliberately limited what analytics can see:

No session recording. The app never films or replays your screen.
No autocapture. We do not log every tap and keystroke. Only a short, fixed list of events is sent — such as "a recording was saved" or "the paywall was viewed".
No personal content. We never send names, email addresses, book titles, photos, or the contents of recordings. Your account is represented only by a random identifier.
No location. Your IP address is discarded rather than being used to derive your location.

Crash and error reports may include a technical description of the fault, the app version, and the device model and operating system version.

8. Service Providers

We share limited data with providers who help operate Readby: Apple and Google (in-app purchases and billing), RevenueCat (subscription status), PostHog (app analytics and crash reporting, EU-hosted), Google Analytics (website analytics, which you can turn off), Apple and Google (delivery of push notifications, if you enable them), our cloud hosting and database provider, and an email provider for transactional emails. When you add a book we look up cover art from public sources (Open Library, Google Books, Apple Books) using only the title and author you enter. We do not sell your personal data.
